Ki O Rahi

Yesterday some of the year 6,7&8 went to Simpson park in Moerewa to contend in a game of ki o'rahi. We played agents others School satch as Taipa, Moerewa, Taumarere and Motatau. There were other school we didn’t play like Waikare and some other school. I really liked that day because we all had fun and didn’t get angry at each other. What I found hard was playing against bigger players.

Aha Ngapuhi

In Te Ngahere the kapa haka roopu is relearning the original way of Aha Ngapuhi. We have to learnt it again because, as Ngapuhi, we want one haka that is all the same instead of one haka with many versions. What I found hard was pronouncing the words at the end. Now that I have it stuck in my head it is much easier to understand. What I learnt from this was people got lazy back then and didn't want to pronounce it properly.

Have you ever had to learn something again?

Swim Safety

In Te Ngahere yesterday we had a special visitor called Tracy come in and tell us stuff about swim safety. She told us five ways we can stay safe on or off a boat. What I learnt was to wear a life jacket, check the weather, tell someone where you're going and when your coming back, put your safety first and always remember to bring a waterproof phone or radio. The thing I found hard was understanding how the flare works. What I found easy was knowing how to call in an emergency. Do you know anything about water safety? Have you ever been in a swim safety lesson? Have you ever been caught in a rip.

Steam Challenge

In Te Ngahere we have been doing steam challenges. For our steam challenge this week we had to pair up with someone and make a tower made out of newspaper. When we were doing this I learnt how to work together well and try my hardest. The thing that I struggled with was keeping track of the time and only using 30 cm of sellotape , other then that it was a great challenge and I really enjoyed it.

Rakau

Two weeks ago in Te Ngahere the Kapa Haka roopu boys made their own rakau. First we went to one of my teachers house to get the right piece of wood. We used totara, After we found our sticks we left it with my teacher for a couple months so it could dry. When that couple months was over he brought them to school so we could finish them off. We had to sand them twice and smith them.

Here is some photo of us finishing them.

Kaikohe Cultural Festival

Yesterday the Kapa Haka roopu traveled to Kaikohe for the Kaikohe cultural festival. When we got there we all quickly went into the practice room because we were almost ready to perform. After the group that was performing  before us we walked on, as we were singing our first song I was looked around and saw heaps of people that I know. After we finished our bracket I felt good about myself because I performed in front of more than a hundred people. After we walked back to the bus we weren't aloud to stay because there wouldn't be enough people that could fit in the hall.

Te Reo Maori

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Te Reo Maori. For Te Reo Maori this week we made a presentation about our pepeha. We had to screencastify our self with a friend asking and telling our pepeha. It was kind of hard because I mucked up a couple of times but my friend Fonz-o helped me. After I finished my screencastify I added it on my presentation. It was fun working with my friend.

Bay Bush Action

Last week at Paihia School we had a visitor named Stellea come in. What she does for her work is looking after our native birds and trees. She also traps dogs, stoats, cats, weasels and possums. She also does this so our native birds don't become extinct, I really like how she came in to tell the school how important it is to look after Te Ngahere.

Technology

Yesterday the year 7&8’s went to tech. For tech yesterday we made a Shepherd’s Pie and an Apple Crumble, I really like doing this because I learn how to make things I didn't know. My buddy Rikki and I worked together well with the Apple crumble by getting all the ingredients right. After we finished we got to eat our Apple crumble with ice cream.

Marble

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about science. For science this week we have been learning about variables. Variables is something you change that affects your result. My group, Fonz and Kingi made a ramp that had to roll exactly 110cm. Our class also had a competitions for who got the most points, the points were 5,3,2 and 1. I think my group done well by working together and helping each other, next time I think my group should not just let the marble go because it changes the result every time. Here's some pics.

Maths

This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to use the strategy doubling and halving . sharing For maths we had to make a DLO about what we have learnt, we also had to work hard to do it or we would have to stay in. I was struggling because I didn't know how to explain why it was the same number, I eventually got it in the end because my friend told me how to do it.

Ki O Rahi

Last week on Friday the year 7&8 went to Ki O Rahi at the Kaikohe Lindvart Park
on the way there their was lots of traffect but it was heaps of bikers. After a while we arrived and we all had to meet so we can set up for the day. After we set up all the schools merged into one big circle so we could harm up. Then we got into a game, we verst Kaikohe Christian School and we lose by one but it was a great game.

Robbet

In Te Ngahere we had a visitor called Robbet come to our school. He talked about his life and how he was a great snowboarder in his 20s, when he was little he saw his dad die in front of him in a car crash. His friends also went down the wrong path for example taking drug and going to jail. But on the bright side when he was older  he was also sponsored by Samsung, Apple, Vodafone and other big compernese. What I like about this is how he took the right path and didn't follow his friends.

Kupe

In Te Ngahere we have been working on Panui. For panui this week we have been learning about the history of Aotearoa/New Zealand. We also learnt about Kupe, Nukutawhiti, James Cook and Abel Tasman. Me and my group choose Kupe and how he got to New Zealand we also found interesting facts such as Kupe was a 10th century figure who was involved in the polynesian discovery of New Zealand. Here's what we made.

Last week on Wednesday the year 7&8 went to Technology. On the way there me and Izaiah were yelling out the window saying funny things. When we got to Moerewa School we all lined up and walk quietly. The year 7’s were with Mr E and the year 8’s were with Whaea Dot, the year 7’s were learning to make some bling bling out of metal while the year 8’s where making a pie. My friends and I made a lighting bolt, I made the lighting bolt for my little brother because he thinks he’s fast. I really enjoyed using the power tools to make my creation. Technology

Last week on Wednesday, the year 7&8’s went to Morewa School to do technology. The year 7’s did woodwork with Mr E. He told us all about the tools and super tools. We also had to do a test about what the tool’s names were and what they do. When we got into it we only practice on a little bit of wood. Rikki, Dalton and I were trying to make a Maui hook and whack each other with it. Then the bell rang . Fonz-o and I went to go get something to eat at the tuck shop. When we went to play there was this little crazy boy that was running around. When we went back to the class we carried on with our project. After a bit we had to clean up and get ready to go and then we went on the bus back to school.

Kindness

Yesterday in Te Ngahere we were learning about kindness. Before lunch our teacher, Whaea Chrissy, gave us a challenge. The challenge was to count how many people would smile and wave back, when we smiled and waved to them. I worked with my friend Fonz-o. Fonz-o and myself made over a hundred people feel happy and safe. We also helped two kids in the playground who had hurt themselves. This activity made me very happy and feel good about myself. I really hope we do something like this again.
